91She was the daughter of William Rowe Hill of Cherry Grove (Gardens?)
and his wife Charlotte who had arrived in Adelaide on the "Royal
Admiral" in early 1838. They were allotted a town acre in Currie St
where they erected a thatched shack, the first in Currie St. There was
born Susan, the third white child born in Sth Aust. He sold his shack and
settled at Scott's Creek (18 km SSE of Adelaide) but also selected a
large holding on the River Bremen at Langhorne's Creek, later with the
stud prefix "Bremer View" and homestead "Fairholme", where she and
Henry lived after marriage, from 1858. There were 15 children but 5 died
in infancy. A very courageous and tough person, she raised the family and
worked the farm alone after Henry's death at age 50 (1885). She retired
to Strathalbyn where she died at 92.
The Follets, descendants of Alice Fairweather, daughter of Henry and
Susan, still run Bremer View.
Stan (ESF) knew one daughter (grand-daughter?), Mrs Nell Downing aged
over 80 at Mt Barker, SA.
